Nellie always has the time

Oil on wallpaper on canvas   40"x 30"  2013

This piece was part of a triptych in my summer show.
3 ladies with the same vintage wall paper background.
-Nellie looks to me like she always has the time to go shopping... I think she likes to shop.

The School for the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is having their annual sale, and Nellie is there! (along with some friends)

The show runs at these times... and its always good fun.

Throwback Thursday- a show card from 1997!

The card is from my first gallery show in Boston and the painting is of my great uncle Tommy. It was a very fun reception, my entire family came to that one - My parents and brothers and sisters and even aunts, uncles, & cousins. They filled the gallery up. It was great!

Windy Woman

6x6"   oil on wood block   1998 card piece, Provincetown, MA

I seem to be inspired by the weather today in my choice of painting to post.

I just brought my dog for a walk...   its pretty windy in the Northeast  today!
(My hair was flying like the windy woman's)

Charlie

Charlie.    5x7"    oil on panel     2000

Charlie was a model at Boston University when I was a student there.  He came and sat for me one winter day.  I borrowed the red backdrop from my friend Gabe, and I remember really enjoying the reflection of the red on his skin.

Waiting for spring

8x10"   oil on Panel    2000

It's mid-March and we just got 6" of snow (or more) here in the Northeast.
I thought this painting captured the spirit of how we are feeling around here today.

Tomie on the other side of the brush

6x6"   oil on paper   study of Tomie dePaola   spring 2012

I first met Tomie about 15 years ago in Provincetown at the William Scott Gallery. He was buying one of my paintings  (it was a portrait of Sigrid Undset, a norwegian author we both admired).  Tomie is best known for his books for children. (he's written about 250 books including Strega Nona, 26 Fairmont ave, The Art lesson.... and the list goes on and on)  We struck up a friendship that day and have been in touch with each other ever since.  Sometimes a year or two will go by before we see or hear from each other but he is always there. About a year ago I drove up to NH to his house and painted this little portrait.
Last week Tomie skyped with my son's 1st grade class, it was SO FUN!  He is a good guy, and
I hope this painting catches the goodness in him.
Thank you Tomie!

A trip down memory lane....
This was the card piece for my summer show in Provincetown, 1999.
12x12" oil on panel.

Rita waits for inspiration....

6x6" oil on wood
I can't find the original title, so I re-named her. (but I do remember her.)
I hope she is happy. She gets dressed up every morning and loves it when the phone rings and always has a pot of coffee on. She gave up smoking years ago but still thinks about it.
